Tag: All I Want For Christmas

Hey loves! Today I am going to be doing the "All I Want For Christmas Tag" created by Micaylah from Beautiful Jewell. She's a lovely person and an awesome blogger, so if you haven't checked her out yet, please do so! You'll love her! :)

The Questions from Micaylah:
1. If you received a $1,000 gift card for Christmas, would you want it to be to Sephora or Ulta?
-Probably Sephora if I lived in the US, but since I'm from the UK I would probably choose a MAC voucher.

2.) What foundation would you NOT be thrilled about receiving for Christmas?
-I'd be happy to get any type of foundation to try, but I hate BB Creams. Every single one of them I have tried have been rubbish on my oily skin or too dark because I'm so pale.

3.) If you had to choose one Naked Palette to receive for Christmas which one would it be? Basics, 1, 2, or 3.
-Naked 3. I feel I would get most use out of it, and the colours are much nicer than the previous palettes.

4.) What's the first beauty product on your Christmas Wishlist?
- Oh god this ones hard my make up Christmas list is huge so far, it's going to be a hard job picking. But it would have to be, Limecrime's Serpintina and Poisionplum lipstick, Urban Decay Vice 2 palette, Crown eye brushes, Real Techniques brushes, Dior air flash foundation.

5.) What do you plan on buying yourself for Christmas? Come on, we all do it!
-Honestly, nothing until I get all of my Christmas shopping out of the way haha. I have a little list of things I will purchase once the stress of getting for everyone else is out the way.

6.) What have you been buying from Starbucks this Holiday season?
-I've not been to Starbucks in a while, but I went yesterday and I got a toffee nut latte, and it was amazing.

7.) What are you planning on giving a family member, boyfriend, best friend, etc. for Christmas this year?
- I can't say because I know people I'm buying for will be reading!

8.) How detailed do you make your Christmas Wishlist?
-Normally I just add it all to a wish list on amazon, I've never realised until now how good amazon is for make up!

9.) Giving or Receiving? Why?
-I'd rather give than receive. I love the excitement on other peoples faces when they open there presents!

10.) What does Christmas mean to you?
- Christmas for me is about spending time with your loved ones, and relaxing, having a fabulous day, and looking ridiculous with Christmas hats on.

I really enjoyed this tag, hope you enjoyed reading, I tag everyone.

The 1940s: The Wet Set

Today's post is going to be on the importance of correctly setting the hair to then go into creating the perfect pin up hair do.
In this case I will be using the smallest size foam rollers, on wet hair, this is called the wet set. I do this on freshly washed DAMP hair, I can't emphasise the damp part enough. If the hair is too wet and you are leaving the hair to set overnight when you take the rollers out in the morning it will still be damp causing the curls to drop.

I use a setting lotion on each section of hair before I put the roller in, it ensures my curl will last the longest, and too hold it's shape. The setting lotion I use is from Superdrug and it's £2.19 and is the extra firm hold.

As for putting the rollers in I don't have a set way of doing it.
I take a section from my parting down to the top of my ear, and I do this at both sides and I can for in four rollers.

When I've done this at both sides I then do this all the way round until I reach the other side and by this time all my hair will be in rollers.

To keep your rollers intact if you choose to set overnight I would suggest wearing a scarve over them while you sleep!

Hope you enjoyed today's past, there will be another post tomorrow showing the correct method of dressing out the curls to create your desired hair do.

Over The Top With Glitter!

Hey everyone!

So in the run up to Christmas who doesn't love a bit of glitter.

I've been looking to use my Limecrime Styletto lipstick in a look for ages so what better an excuse to team it with a gold glitter smokey eye and glitter lips.
I'm not sure this look will be for everyone, but I look as it for people to take inspiration from and incorporate that in into there own look.

This look is simple and easy to recreate and anyone can do it with a little practise.

Face: normal foundation routine

Eyes: duo lash glue (clear) topped with gold and black glitter when tacky, basic MUA black shadow, MUA waterproof liner, benefit they're real mascara

Lips: black eyeliner to line, limecrime Styletto lipstick, I then sprayed Ben nye final seal onto a brush and applied black glitter on top of the lipstick.

This look could be used for Christmas, new year, night out etc.

Hope you enjoyed today's post, thank you for reading!

Make up: A History: The 1940s

Today I am back with a slightly different approach to my usual blogging ways, hope you enjoy!

The effortless elegance of the 1940s remains an extremely popular style; classic and simple enough to wear everyday, yet glamorous enough to add allure to any evening ensemble. A favorite for many celebrities, this classic look is flattering for anyone! The look consists of arched sculpted eyebrows, clean looking skin, coral/red/pink lips and minimal eye make up. Victory Rolls were a popular hairstyle, and half-moon manicures were often seen on the nails.

Due to the Second World War, women took over many of the male’s jobs in factories and on the land, whilst the men were at war. For this reason, it was popular for make up to be fuss-free and ‘on the go’ compacts were popular because of this, and the 1940s saw the first powder compacts and ‘cake mascara’ compacts.

As lipsticks were often matte, ladies often added Vaseline to their lipstick application to achieve the lustrous shiny lips of the on-screen sirens of the decade, such as actress Rita Hayworth, Betty Grable and Bettie page.

To achieve a modern 1940s make-up look follow the steps below!

  1. After moisturizer and primer, apply foundation. A foundation brush will help you achieve a flawless and clean finish.
  2. Define eyebrows with a pencil. A very curved, yet thin shape was very popular in the 1940s. For a softer look, a matte brown eyeshadow applied with an angled make-up brush adds definition to the brows.
  3. Add definition to the eyes either by a small amount of kohl eyeliner close to the lash line, or with a dark brown liquid eyeliner. Sometimes a small flick was taken to extend the lash line, however a full-on feline flick is more 1950s then 40s.
  4. Lashings of mascara or even false eyelashes were a popular look. Be careful to avoid clumps in the eyelashes.
  5. Add a soft blush to the apples of the cheeks, making sure to blend softly.
  6. Using a lipliner, lighty trace on the lip line in order to create a soft, curved lip shape. Fill the lip with a rich red or coral lipstick, then add a small amount of clear gloss or Vaseline  to add a Hollywood Rita Hayworth-esque sheen to the lips.

TAG: 7 Deadly Beauty Sins

Hi everyone! It's 8.30pm, I have nothing better to do, and I can't resist a tag so here's a fun one for you!

GREED - What is your most inexpensive beauty product? What is your most expensive?

My most inexpensive beauty products are a variety of make-up products from the brand MUA available at superdrug... Lipsticks & Eyeshadows from £1. Just because these products are cheap it doesn't mean they're not great which some of them are!

My most expensive make-up product is a Guerlain limited edition lipstick I bought when I was 19 which cost I think around £39 it's long gone but it was a favourite.

WRATH - What beauty products do you have a love/hate relationship with?

The first think I would say would be eyelashes curlers, not really a product but it still count, I have terribly straight eyelashes an it's almost impossible for me to get them to stand up, I've never found eyelashes curlers, low end or high end that actually work for me.

The second product I have a love/hate relationship with is BB Creams. I've tried loads of different brands, again low end and high end, and they are just horrible on my skin, they look amazing on other but are a nightmare on my oily skin.

GLUTTONY - What are your most delicious beauty products?

Hands down my popcorn lipscrub from lush, if you haven't tried any of the lipscrubs let me tell you, they are devine.
And second would have to be my raspberry swirl lipstick from MACs baking goodies collection, it literally smells like sweeties/bakery it's amazing, the smell alone won me over.

SLOTH - What beauty product do you neglect due to laziness?

Definitely heat protector. I have a few which I love, and being a hairdresser I shouldn't say, but i rarely use them as much as I should.

PRIDE - What beauty product gives you more confidence?

Foundation and eyebrow products. If I don't have anything else on I always have these two. Wouldn't go anywhere without them!

LUST - What attributes do you find most attractive in the opposite sex?

I personally don't see how this question is relevant to this beauty tag but here goes....Honestly? Well I'm not into the opposite sex, as many of you know if you're a reader of my blog. But in women I look for someone who is friendly, confident, approachable and someone who I can have a laugh with.

ENVY - What item would you most like to receive as a gift?

erm...HINT HINT!! Haha. Honestly i'd most like to receive a new hair curling iron or waver. My hair used to be so curly  but since I've been growing it, it's really straight and curling it can be a nightmare. I have an amazing curling wand for smaller curls and a big iron for loose curls and waves. But I'm really after a smaller barrel old style curler that I can use for more vintage styles and setting on my hair.

Phew end of the tag! This was a fun one too do, I tag everyone to do this post! I'm intrigued to see peoples answers.

Thank you for reading, Sophie xxx

REVIEW: Revlon colorstay foundation

Sorry I missed yesterday guys, was very busy so I will do an extra review next Monday too!

Today I will be reviewing revlon colorstay foundation. I've always had an issue with drugstore foundations because I'm so pale, either the lightest is still to dark, or they are far too pale and make me look super washed out. So I was amazed when this colour was absolutely perfect for me! I used to use NW18 in MAC studio fix fluid, so I used www.findation.com to see what colour I would be I'm the colorstay. This website is amazing and super easy to use. The website suggested I should be 150 buff. I went into my local boots and low and behold it was the perfect shade. It retails at £12.49 in my drugstore and come in two different formulations, one for combo/oily skin and one for normal/dry skin, because I was so excited at the perfect colour match I picked up the wrong one for normal/dry skin, but it still worked as well, I recently re purchased in the combo/oily in the same shade and the formulation is so much better, I feel I get a better coverage from this and it's not to runny.

I tried so many different ways to apply this foundation, but my favourite is either to use the beauty blender or a flat top kabuki brush. I would say work fast with this because it does have a tendency to dry quickly therefore making it harder to blend. I use this along with the revlon photo finish primer and Rimmel stay matte powder. It's a full coverage foundation, so if you prefer more a sheer cover then this isn't for you.

I'm now on my second bottle since September and I haven't purchased my MAC foundation or powder since. I am drugstore foundation convert!

I urge you all to try this, I understand it's not for everyone but I love it, and I feel others may too.

Thank you for reading, check back tomorrow for more reviews!

REVIEW: NYC individual eyes eyeshadow

Hi everyone!

Since I've been a little MIA with blogging lately, I'm going to be doing a week of reviews for you guys on some new purchases and old favourites of mines, Sunday to Sunday. So today will be my first post!

I'm going to be reviewing the NYC individual eyes palette, in Midtown Mauve. I picked mines up in Superdrug for £2.99 which is a bargin for what you get!

In the set you get a primer/base for the eyeshadow and a cream highlighter. The shadows itself are beautiful there is a highlighter, all over lid colour and two crease/contour colours, a light and a dark. This palette is meant for brown eyes, mines are green but I loved the colours.

The colour pay off in the shadows is incredible. I used mines without the base to get a true review for you guys, but it is even better with a primer which you can see in the photos below.

I used the all over lid colour mixed with the powder highlighter all over my lid and I used the two darker colours to deepen the crease.

Being totally honest, the few times I've used this pallette I've loved it, it's good for everyday use and for nighttime looks too, it's very versatile for the price, and a bonus is the colours. There are a few other palettes available in the range for different eye colours but my Superdrug only had this one! I will definitely be checking back for more.

I was using this pallette whilst getting ready for a wedding, on the rest of my eyes I used

MUA waterproof liner £1
Loreal telescopic mascara £11.99
Red cherry 102 lashes £2.99
Duo lash glue £2.99

Thanks for reading, check back tomorrow for another review!

HAUL; Superdrug and Primark

Today I treated myself to some retail therapy!

I've not been proper shopping in ages apart from ordering the odd thing from asos so I decided a shopping trip was in order! I started off the day by getting my nails done by the lovely Kelly at Medusa which is situated on the bread street area of Edinburgh, I haven't had my nails done in ages and I have a wedding tomorrow so it seemed an appropriate time to get them done.

I then popped down to Superdrug to see what was going to appeal to me, i was after some new eyeshadows and some lipsticks from Sleek but to no surprise everything I wanted was out of stock. This always happens. Jayne then treated me to my favourite lunch, date day is always cute.

My beautiful nails.

Below are photos, names and prices of things that I purchased.

TAG: sweater weather

Hey guys,
so today I thought that I would do the Sweater Weather Tag, I was tagged by Taylor! (Taylor's collectionn)
So here it is..

Questions:

1. Favourite candle scent?
- I love cherry, vanilla, cupcake you name it. But I'm still loving my Wakiki melon wax tart for my burner from Yankee candle.

2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?
- I love Tea, but I'm an old faithful coffee drinking. I only drink hot chocolate if it's from Starbucks.

3. What's the best fall memory you have?
- Halloween so far! It was fabulous, everyone got dressed up, my next will most probably be the wedding that I'm going to on Friday, I'm pretty excited about that.

4. Which makeup trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eyeliner?
- omg this one is so hard for me! I usually do both. I never go anywhere without lipstick or eyeliner, but on days when my lips need saving I always have winged liner.

5. What do you want to be for Halloween?
- Well Halloween is over, and I dressd up! I went as a 1940s housewife with a twist on actual Halloween and November 1st I went a ventriloquist dummy. Halloween is my most favourite time of year.

6. Favourite Thanksgiving food?
- In the uk thanksgiving isn't something we celebrate. I hate turkey, and love chicken.

7. Hats or Scarves?
- Hats usually aren't my thing although I do have a few. I just recently purchased a tartan scarve that I love and I think I'm going to be rocking it til it starts getting warm again.

8. Most worn sweater?
- My Oversized Christmas cardi from new look. My mum bought me it last year, and I honestly love it so much.

9. Favourite fall nail polish?
- I'm really loving Nails inc Bruton Street and Tate which are the perfect nude and the perfect metallic red colours. LOVE THEM.

10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles?
- I don't play football, or watch it. So it would have to be the leaf piles.

11. Skinny jeans or leggings?
- Leggings, I probably have enough leggings printed an black for everyday of the year. Denim isn't really my thing unless it's shorts or a jacket.

12. Combat boots or Uggs?
- Both. I love uggs for comfy days, but boots also look fabulous when you can really be bothered making an effort with your outfit.

13. What's your #1 favourite thing about fall?
- Leggings, comfy jumpers, Starbucks, cosy nights in with candles, Saturday night tv, and of course cuddles!

So that is my Sweater Weather Tag guys, I hope you enjoyed!
I tag ANYONE who would like to do this.

Thanks for reading, Sophie xxx

I heart drugstore tag!

Hey guys! Sorry I've been so MIA recently, I've been super busy with Halloween this weekend, I'm doing a post on all the make up looks I created.

I was tagged by the lovely Taylor's colletionn, to do this post.

So here it is..

1. What is your favourite Drugstore brand overall?
- This is so hard! Probably Revlon, Rimmel or Barry M.

2. What are your favourite face/cheek/lip products?

Face; revlon colorstay foundation, revlon colorstay pressed powder and MUA concealer palette.
Cheek; MUA blush in cupcake.
Lip; Sleek lipstick in Heartbreaker and Vamp, Revlon matte lipstick in Really Red.

3. What is your least favourite drugstore product?
- Probably the Rimmel or Maybelline nail polish, I've never been able to like them.

4. What is your biggest makeup bargain?
- The MUA concealer palette or the Soap and Glory concealer. They are both amazing for the price.

5. What is your favourite underdog product? (something that is over-looked)
- Barry M dazzle dusts. I LOVE THEM.

6. A drugstore product that is overpriced?
- The loreal telescopic mascara. It's 12.99 in my boots, and it's half the amount of a 5.99 mascara and it's drying out already. I really wished I hadn't liked it, because I'm going to have to repurchase.

7. Show your best drugstore dupes?
- Revlon matte lipstick in Really Red is a dupe for Mac's Ruby Woo. And Sleek's Heartbreaker for Mac's Flat Out Fabulous.

8. A drugstore product that isn't worth the hype?
- Rimmel wake me up foundation. I HATE IT.

So this is my tag guys thank you for reading!
